What is better than having home grown organic vegetables in your back yard? I really don’t think anything!
This year will be the second attempt at growing a garden in a small little fenced in backyard. Last year it didn’t turn out so well with some of the vegetables. I think a couple problems was the clay dirt and not full sunlight in spots around the whole back yard. This year I tried to fix those issues.
First, I filled in the back with all new black dirt. Second, I tried to plant most of the vegetables where they would get the most sunlight throughout the day. Hopefully, this year will be a totally different outcome.
Now what did I plant?
- Green Peppers
- Basil
- Spinach
- Broccoli
- Parsley
- Dill
I was hoping to get some more plants in there, but with areas that had very little sunlight throughout the day, I didn’t think they would have survived.

On the side of the garden, it virtually didn’t get any sunlight except later in the afternoon and evening. I thought this would be a wonderful spot to plant some impatients. These flowers are special since they can survive in the shade. I am really hoping these flowers will grow and spread out on the side of the garden. Along with the already gown impatients, I did plant some seeds for them too next to these. I haven’t seen them peeking up through the ground yet!
In the picture above, I did call it an iGarden. I have high hopes one day we will all have iGardens that will be computer controlled for watering and feeding the plants special nutrients that they need depending on the soil. You could even get your garden vitals on your iPhone! This will be awesome!
Until that day, I will be trying to improve my Green Thumb abilities!
Did you plant a garden this year? If so, what are your favorite plants and flowers?
